Past District Governor Kirk Driskell honored our own Lorri Christopher at last weekend's District 6900 celebration in Sandestin. He commented that Lorri was willing to take on any task that needed doing - and that all her efforts "helped me and the District look good." Lorri helped with the planning for Kirk's year, stepped in for a fourth year as an Assistant Governor when there was an unexpected opening, all while serving as Secretary for the Georgia Rotary Student Program and contributing in many other ways.
Congratulations Lorri for an honor well-deserved! And thanks for all you do!
We are excited to welcome Maro Innocent-Otolo, our new student from Nigeria. Maro arrived last Thursday with her father - met at the airport by Ron and Louise Barden. She will be attending Oglethorpe University, and Ardy and Lydie Bastien will be her Dunwoody host family! We'll be sharing more soon about this special new member of our Dunwoody Family of Rotary!
On August 14, 2021, Haiti was rocked by a massive 7.2 Magnitude Earthquake and Tropical Storm Grace followed right behind the earthquake - brining heaving rains and flooding to the country. Nearly 2,000 people have died, another 10,000 are injured and more than 7,000 homes were destroyed.
The Rotary District 7020 Earthquake response committee met Monday to begin assessing the damage done, the immediate needs and how to help. Our Dunwoody Board of Directors voted this Tuesday to respond to District 7020's urgent fundraising appeal with a $2,500 contribution from our Dunwoody Charitable Fund.
Louise Barden reported at the meeting that the hospital in Haiti we worked with a few years ago to buy a C-Arm for orthopedic surgeries was still open for business and would be able to provide important care for earthquake victims.
If you are interested in making personal contributions to Haiti earthquake relief, use this link for more information about how to contribute to the District 7020 Haiti Earthquake Disaster Recovery Fund.
Nearly 20 members of Dunwoody's Family of Rotary joined the District 6900 Celebration in Sandestin last weekend. Thanks to Ed and Judy Holliday for coordinating our hospitality suite and a lovely dinner at the Ocean Club (pictured here). We enjoyed time at the beach and the pool, and fellowship with District 6900 Rotarians we hadn't seen much since the pandemic hit last year.
Mark your calendars now for District Conference 2022 - April 28 to May 1 in Sandestin. It's a great opportunity for fun and fellowship!
