He is also the co-executive producer of the Caffeine & Octane TV show on the Discovery Network’s Velocity Channel. Caffeine & Octane is recognized as the largest Monthly Car Show in North America. This event has been held on the first Sunday of each month at Perimeter Mall and is a showcase for car enthusiasts to proudly display their vehicles and trade stories about their cars. On a typical Sunday, 10,000+ car lovers show up to view more than 2,000 muscle, classic, luxury, high performance and exotic cars.
Bruce’s career as a promoter and event marketing expert spans three decades. He founded the Special Events Network in 1991, which produces a variety of events for major media outlets and Fortune 1000 companies, including 70+ outdoor movie events each year from Atlanta GA to Seattle Washington.
In 2014 Mr. Piefke took ownership of Caffeine & Octane from Cox Automotive. Under his leadership, the business has grown to include 12 Caffeine & Octane Events at Perimeter Mall, 4 Caffeine and Exotic events at Lenox Mall, a road-show version at the Beach on Jekyll Island and the television show 'Caffeine and Octane’ which premiered on the Velocity Channel last February. Bruce recently signed a three season deal with NBC Sports for the Caffeine & Octane TV Show to air on prime time Thursday nights beginning this October. The combined social media assets and the TV show reach an audience of over 500,000 car enthusiasts each week.
Mr. Piefke has been an impactful leader in Dunwoody GA and was recently recognized by the mayor and city council for the economic stimulus that Caffeine and Octane provides to the City of Dunwoody each month. Bruce was recently honored by the Dunwoody Convention & Visitors Bureau with an award for his efforts to promote tourism in Dunwoody.
Bruce is a native of Atlanta. He graduated from Sandy Springs High School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is married to Cindy, lives in Sandy Springs and has two daughters, one of which attends his alma mater at UNC.
Sunday, July 23, 2017 was an absolutely gorgeous day at Dunwoody’s Brook Run Park. The day was made even more beautiful by the presence of Rotarians their families, and guests. The event was the First Annual Rotary Club of Dunwoody Picnic, a Family of Rotary event. The 47 persons in attendance first packed more than 3,600 meals to be sent overseas to needy recipients under the auspices of “Kids Fighting Hunger”. Thereafter, Game-Master Carol Gage organized and refereed three grueling events, the Water Sponge challenge, the Water Balloon toss and a Picnic staple, the three-legged race. Congratulations to Team Bunker who won all three events and the overall Gold Metal. Upon the conclusion of the Games, in lieu of a closing ceremony, a delicious dinner was enjoyed by all, served and prepared by Master Chef and Grill Master Jim Riticher and his able assistant David Hern. At the Dinner’s conclusion, a raffle was held raising $ 145.00 for the Club’s Charitable Fund, the Grand Prize being a $200.00 Best Buy Gift Certificate which was won by Eric Otness. Many thanks to Program Chair Ken Levy (and, of course, Sherry), Jim Riticher, Carol Gage and Tom Lashway for making our First Annual Picnic a success!! Rotarians and guests in attendance included Charlie Augello and Anita along with their children and grand children, Louise Barden and her husband Ron Barden, Cathie Brumfield, Patti Bunker and spouse Tom Lambert (and their son), Fred Brandt, Lorri Christopher, Bob Freeman, and his wife Grace, Anne Glenn and her husband Clark, David and Kathleen Hern (and family), Tom Lashway, Jessie Legros, Ken and Sherry Levy (and their extended family), Charlie Lockwood, Rick Otness and Maureen Otness (and son Eric), Tina Philpot and David Philpot, Jim Riticher and Carolyn Riticher, Harvey Rosenzweig and Natine Rosenzweig, George Stewart and Amy Stewart, Jennie Stipick plus prospective members Tania Lopez and Luis Caceres. A splendid time was had by all!
The Club needs someone who likes to explore the capabilities of a computer platform, and then once they know it, make it do to truly amazing and unexpected things. Rick Woods oversaw the Club's transition from using Club Runner to embracing the District/Club platform last fall. The transition has gone well, but as the President Elect for 2017-2018, Rick Woods needs to turn his attention to preparing his team for 2018-2019. We need someone to step in who thrives on teasing out new capabilities, and loves exploring a system's true potential.
Rick Woods will be available to brief you on the system, and give you a rudimentary working knowledge of it, but then it will be up to you to play with the system and discover its true potential. Those interested please contact Rick Otness at otness_r@mindspring.com or call 770-715-9251.
This service project is to accomplish the collection of donated home medical equipment and/or supplies for Friends of Disabled Adults and Children (FODAC) a 501c3 organization located in Stone Mountain.
FODAC targets items that are in high demand from their clients, adult and pediatric. These items include gently used manual and electric wheelchairs, scooters, walkers, hospital beds and many other items. After collection, the items are refurbished/reconditioned by FODAC at their central facility and then distributed back out to those in need by FODAC through their various stores around greater Atlanta.
Again, this year the North Atlanta, Brookhaven, Dunwoody (6), Decatur, Emory Druid Hills, Tucker, Stone Mountain, South DeKalb and the North Atlanta Rotaract clubs all participated with over 40 volunteers. We started with a breakfast buffet and meet and greet session for all volunteers at the 57th Fighter Group Restaurant next to the Peachtree-DeKalb Airport. It was a great opportunity to socialize with fellow club members.
We divided up into twelve groups canvassing north east Atlanta on prearranged routes to pick up the donations with a fleet of trucks, trailers and SUVs. Last year with 46 volunteers the teams picked up more than $160,000 with a goal for this year for over $200,000. Although final results are not in as yet, per FODAC calculations, this will make a cumulative $500,000 over the project life of five years.
Note that this event meets one of the key Presidential Citation categories by participation with multiple clubs on a project.
