Rotarians Needed as Volunteers

Rotarians Needed as Volunteer Essay Judges for the Georgia Laws of Life Essay Contest

Like to read? Need meeting make-up credit? Want a peek into the lives today’s youth?

Last year the Essay Reading Sessions held in Atlanta were a big success! This year they are being offered throughout metro Atlanta and state!

The essays provide an eye-opening glimpse into the hopes, struggles and everyday lives of Georgia teens. As a judge, you will see how core values – such as generosity, courage, compassion, perseverance and grit – are experienced by a younger generation.

Volunteer Essay Readers and School Judges are needed to select the grade and school winning essays. We also need, State Finalist Judges to select the state level winning essays. The diagram attached depicts the process.

Essay Readers & School Judges First Review Sessions – Individual Readings

A 4-hour meeting consisting of a 1-hour training session followed by a 3-hour reading and judging session. Volunteers can bring their lunch; light snacks will be provided.

Wednesday, February 13 10:15-2:15 Cobb Co Library, Vinings Branch, 4290 Paces Ferry

Thursday, February 14 12:30-4:30 Forsyth Co Library, Sharon Forks, 2820 Old Atlanta Road

Saturday, February 16 10:15-2:15 Fulton Co Library, Northside Branch, 3295 Northside Pkwy

Tuesday, February 19 9:30-1:30 Phoenix & Dragon Bookstore, 5505 Roswell Road NE

Thursday, February 21 9:30-1:30 Columbus, GA, Location TBD

Monday, February 25 12:30-4:30 Athens Regional Library, Athens Branch, 2025 Baxter St

Tuesday, February 26 12:30-4:30 Chestatee Regional, Dawson Co Branch, 342 Allen Street

Wednesday, February 27 12:30- 4:30 Clayton Co Library, Forest Park Branch, 4812 West Street

Essay Readers & School Judges Second Review Sessions – Group Reviews Second Review Sessions are 3-hour group reviews and open to first review volunteers only. Volunteers can bring their lunch; light snack will be provided.

Monday, March 4 10:00 - 1:00 Director’s home, West Buckhead, Atlanta

Tuesday, March 5 10:00 - 1:00 Director’s home, West Buckhead, Atlanta

Wednesday, March 6 10:00 - 1:00 Director’s home, West Buckhead, Atlanta

Friday, March 8 (if needed) 10:00 - 1:00 Director’s home, West Buckhead, Atlanta

State Finalist Judges – via email

These judges will receive approximately 15 essays via email on or about March 18 and will have 5 days to read the essays and return their rankings. Most finalist judges find that it takes 2 to 3 hours to complete the assignment. Most Clubs provide meeting make-up credit for Laws of Life volunteer readers and judges.

To participate simply fill out the sign-up form here: http://georgialawsoflife.org/volunteer/. Please sign up by February 8th.
