USO
Our next service date with the USO at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport is Wednesday, December 28, 2016.
This date is a little different for us. It is later in the year and in the middle of the holiday travel season. We hope and expect that this means we have the opportunity to serve many military personnel and their families as they travel through Atlanta.
We need morning shift and evening shift help. We could also use some help soliciting food donations.
If you would like to volunteer, please contact
Larry Domenico at 404-845-1946 or ldomenico@ mfllaw.com
For each of the past 8 years, the Rotary Club of Dunwoody has assisted the Coach of the Quizbowl team (this year the Coach is Shannon McCartha )with the training of the Quizbowl team at Peachtree Charter Middle School (PCMS). This is a fantastic opportunity for new as well as experienced Rotarians to work with the best and the brightest kids at Peachtree Charter Middle School (grades 6th thru 8th).
Volunteering is easy. You select the dates that work for your schedule. You will read questions to the students, and tell them if they have given the correct answer correct (Yes, we give the volunteers the answers, so no need to get anxious about needing to know all the answers). Your job is to show the students that someone in addition to their parents and teachers thinks it is okay to be
These kids are smart and really grow during the course of the year.
Practices will be held on Thursday afternoon's from 4:15 PM to 5:15 PM at PCMS. If you would like to try volunteering, we ask that you volunteer for at least two weeks during any given month. You can take a month off, or volunteer as many times as your schedule will allow. This is so the kids can get to know you. If you think you would like to try it, please send an email to Rick Otness (otness_r@mindspring.com ) indicating your interest.
GRSP Weekend: Friday January 13th – Sunday January 15th
Dunwoody Rotarians! Please welcome the 71st International scholarship class to the GRSP weekend hosted at Oglethorpe University. The students will take part in enriching experiences and events that foster and promote world peace.
Dunwoody Rotarian Larry Hart, a certified instructor in Fierce Conversations will have a seminar with the students. There will be a “Shark Tank” type event with the Rotaract club. This year the students will journey to the new Center for Civil and Human Rights which highlights three different exhibits – The American Civil Rights Movement, The Global Human Rights Movement and the Morehouse College Martin Luther King, Jr. Collection Voice to the Voiceless.
We are expecting a great turnout of 50 Students! Do you have a guest bed or two? We need about 15 more beds to place students in! The commitment is pretty easy, they would stay Friday and Saturday night and you would feed them breakfast each morning and drive them to/from Oglethorpe each day.
If interested in hosting a student contact Louise Barden 404-423-8226 or lbarden@comcast.net for more information.
