Special Olympics Service Opportunity - November 11, 2022

For more than 10 years Dunwoody Rotarians have helped make the DeKalb County Special Olympics Basketball Skills Activity a reality. This is our first opportunity since 2019 (pre-Covid) to help with this event. Please consider joining with us to make this long-awaited event a success on November 11, 2022.

Through participation in athletics, Special Olympic athletes learn life skills that transfer to home, community, school, workplace. While Special Olympics athletes work hard to achieve their goals, thousands of volunteers partner with athletes helping them achieve success.

Dunwoody Rotarians have an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of 150+ DeKalb County special needs students and their families.

What: Special Olympics Basketball Skills Clinic and Competition

When: Friday, November 11, 9:30 am – 12:30 pm (1.5 hour shifts available)

Where: Sequoyah Middle School, 3456 Aztec Rd, Doraville, GA 30340

Special Olympics Athletes’ Oath:

“Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.”

To Volunteer, send your name, email and preferred shift(s) to Kathy Brandt, Rick Woods or Fred Bounds.

Shift #1 9:30-11:00am

Shift #2 11:00am – 12:30pm

Shift #3 both shifts

Whiskey Raffle Update

There's still time to participate in the raffle ahead of the Whiskey Drawing tomorrow (October 20th)! Most of these tickets were purchased by our own members so we need to spread the word using the QR cards to other people you may know such as family, friends, business acquaintances, etc. You can leave these behind at any Dunwoody restaurant or pubs you may visit with the proprietor’s permission. We have some at Porter’s Brew & Que, E.48th Street Market, The Dunwoody Tavern, Mail Center, Etc., Dunwoody Country Club and Orchard Park Cleaners so far. The biggest problem we face in fund-raising after a successful year is complacency and the feeling that these are automatically successful. They are not. Success comes from your engagement, involvement and support. Please help us! Our first raffle of 2022 features two bottles of bourbon from distilleries local to Atlanta.
The first is ShortBarrel Toasted 101, a small batch Kentucky Bourbon aged a few long Kentucky summers, re-barreled in new traditional medium toasted barrels for a minimum of 21 days. The result - is a pleasantly balanced toasted bourbon with just the right amount of vanilla, candy and sweet oak flavor. Bottled at 101 proof this bourbon will surely become a staple on any bar. 
The second is from the Distillery of Modern Art, a very new distillery. The bottle is a corn whiskey that is being distilled at the present time. We can't say for certain that the bottle will be ready at the time of the drawing, but if it isn't, a gift certificate will be provided for later pickup.
