This Week's Speaker
Scott Shelar, President and CEO, Construction Ready

Join us this Friday at Maggiano's to welcome Scott Shelar, President and CEO of Construction Ready, who will share his thought on career opportunities for young people in the construction industry.

Scott was never a straight-A student in school. More like B-C, depending on the class. He thrived in those that were taught in concrete ways, like geometry and writing. He still sweats just thinking about the abstract ones like algebra and trigonometry. He knows there are millions of students like him, who thrive in school when subjects are taught in more concrete ways. Think learning fractions in shop class with a tape measure and a 2x4 instead of lectures, numerators and denominators! Not everybody learns the same and not everybody wants to pursue the same type of careers.

For Scott, Construction Ready’s mission is personal. He thrives when helping students enjoy learning and when helping all people, regardless of learning styles or life circumstances, to find a rewarding, life-long career. His favorite quote is one by Walt Disney: “It’s kind of fun to do the impossible.”

Scott is in his 27th year as President and CEO of Construction Ready. He lives in Dunwoody, Georgia with his wife of 30 years, one baseball-loving, teenage son, and one cheerleading, teenage daughter.

Whiskey Raffle Update
The Trick is More Ticket Sales; The Treat is More Community Impact

Now in Week 11 of the Whiskey Raffle!

This is your second weekly update on the Whiskey Raffle… only a few weeks left! Dave apologies for the second email this morning - he didn't update the newsletter properly in the middle of the night!

Thursday of next week on November 6, we’ll hosting our second whiskey tasting tonight - Wednesday, October 29. The event starts at 7:00pm at the Spalding Lake Clubhouse at 3880 Spalding Drive NE, Sandy Springs.

The charge is $35/person paid at the door. For that price, you’ll receive several tastes of various Gelnmorangie scotches, some light appetizers, and a raffle ticket for the whiskey raffle (value of $25/ticket).

Have great whiskey, meet great people, help the local community, and have a chance of winning great whiskey all in one evening! Please contact Dave Burr or Neal Macdonald with any questions.

After tonight's event, we will have 2 more tastings and need your help to publicize!

  • Thursday, November 6th, 7:00pm at Politan Row – WHISKEY TASTING. Our third whiskey tasting sponsored by Winebow Importers and Politan Row. This is a free event featuring whiskey from around the world for the cultured palate! Cultured palate or not, it’s open to anyone who would like to attend! A great opportunity to socialize, raise awareness of Rotary, and pitch some raffle tickets.
  • Thursday, November 13th, 7:00pm at Louisiana Bistreaux – WHISKEY TASTING ($49). Our final tasting event only one week before the raffle itself. This charged event features appetizers specifically paired with 5 tastings of Whistle Pig, a premium producer of rye and bourbon. Again, a good deal at a great restaurant.

In the meantime, watch your social media feeds! In the upcoming weeks we’ll be launching our advertising campaign. Like, forward, and spread the word!

Remember that this year the price is $25/ticket or a bulk deal of 5 tickets for $100. There are a maximum 1,000 tickets available. Visit whiskey-raffle.com and send your friends (especially those that love whiskey and/or a good cause)!
