Robert W. “Buzz” Law, a Certified Financial Planner™ since 1984, is President and Founder of Creative Financial Group Ltd., a premier planning firm in Atlanta where he counsels affluent individuals and their families on comprehensive financial, estate, investment, and tax planning matters. Creative Financial Group was founded in 1988 and operated independently until February 2001, when the firm became a subsidiary of Synovus Corporation. Creative Financial Group is a preferred provider of Executive Financial Planning services for several companies across the United States (including AT&T, Southern Company, CSX, Emory University, and others). 

Governor Nathan Deal appointed Buzz to the Technical College System of Georgia Board in 2014 and will serve until 2027. Buzz is currently representing the 7th Congressional District and has been appointed as the Chairman for 2026 and 2027. Buzz was previously appointed by Governor Sonny Perdue to the State Board of Education in January 2007, where he served until February 2011. His first appointment by Governor Perdue in 2006 was to the Board of Corrections as the 6th Congressional District Representative. Buzz also served on the Advisory Board for Smokey Powell School at the Academy for the Blind in Macon. Recently, Buzz was appointed by State Superintendent of Schools, Richard Woods, to Vice Chairman of the Georgia Foundation for Public Education (GFPE), which oversees the allocation of PEACH Education tax credits.

Since 2006, Buzz has been honored to be accepted in the elite company of the Atlanta Estate Planning Council. In 2005, as a Charter member, Buzz completed the certification for Kingdom Advisors, previously the Christian Financial Professionals Network (CFPN), and he currently is a CKA Champion. Robb Report Worth magazine named Buzz as “one of the Nation’s 100 most exclusive Wealth Advisors” for 2004. Worth magazine has recognized Buzz as a top financial planner in 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003. Buzz is only one of two Financial Advisors who have been named in Worth Magazine from 1997 thru 2003 in Georgia. In 2002, Buzz participated in the Synovus Leadership Training. Buzz was named to the Synovus Chairman’s Circle of Excellence for 2012-2025. 

The Atlanta Business Chronicle named Buzz as one of “Who’s Who in Banking and Finance” every year from 2005 through 2013. Buzz was included in the 2009-2013 issues of Atlanta Magazine’s “Best Personal Wealth Managers.” As announced by Atlanta Magazine, Buzz was named a Five Star Wealth Manager in 2013 through 2025. Additionally, he has been recognized or quoted by numerous financial publications including Bloomberg Wealth Manager, MONEY, Mutual Fund Magazine, Atlanta Business Chronicle, and Financial Planning. Buzz was appointed by Medical Economics as one of the Top 150 Financial Planners for doctors in November 2012, as well as in August 2000, December 2002, November 2004, November 2006, November 2008, and October 2009. In 2009-2014, Buzz was also recognized by the Consumer Research Council of America’s “Guide to America’s Top Financial Planners.” 

Buzz serves or has served on the University of Georgia Alumni Board of Directors and the Advisory Board for the Dekalb County School Systems Academy of Finance. He is involved with the United Way Resource Development Committee, Atlanta Habitat for Humanity Advisory Committee and Financial Planning Association (FPA) since 1985. Buzz is a 30-year member of the Rotary Club of Dunwoody with 22 years of perfect attendance and has been an honorary member since 2022. He is also active in the Big Canoe community. 

Buzz was born and raised in Atlanta and attended Woodward Academy. Graduating from the University of Georgia, Buzz earned his Bachelor of Business Administration with a major in Finance and minor in Real Estate. Buzz is a life-long member of the AT Ω Fraternity. 

Buzz and his wife Cathy live in Alpharetta and have 4 children, Rob (2015 Magna Cum Laude graduate of UGA in Finance and CFG Advisor) and his wife Olya with their two children (Lottie, 2 and new baby Bo), Elliott (currently modeling and working in real estate in Los Angeles), Austin (2016 graduate of Alabama in Finance and works at Walker Dunlap) and Ansley (graduate of Kennesaw State and teaching 6th grade at St. Francis Middle School). In addition, the family includes three dogs. 

More About Richard

Richard joined Creative Financial Group in 2000 and is an Accredited Asset Management Specialist (AAMS®). He holds Series 7, 63 and 65 securities licenses through Synovus Securities.

Richard provides investment advisory and financial planning services to high-net-worth individuals and corporate executives. He also serves on CFG’s Investment Policy Committee.

He is integral to the firm’s investment advisory and financial planning services, including trading. He helped build and automate a trading system to streamline the management of the exchange-traded fund strategy used by Creative Financial and has implemented multiple trading platforms for the firm.

Richard earned a BBA in marketing from the University of Georgia and an MBA in Finance from Georgia State University. He is a thirteen-year winner of the Five Star Wealth Manager award and was a panelist at Morningstar’s 25th Annual Investment Conference “Alternative Investments in Practice”. He is a member of the UGA Alumni Society along with his wife Amanda.

Richard and Amanda live in Flowery Branch and have three children (McKenzie, Garrett and Conner) and two dogs (Poppi and Hopper, aka #Snoophoggyhawg).
