Getting to Know You
Jennifer Shumway ... From Atlanta 2017 to Dunwoody Parade

For many, the 2017 Rotary International Convention in Atlanta was a global celebration of service. For Jennifer Shumway, it was a family affair that changed her life. When her father—then President of the Lake Butler Club—visited for the convention, he stayed with Jennifer and posed a pointed question: “Why haven’t you joined Rotary yet?”

Having met the legendary Fred Brandt during the convention, Jennifer’s father was so impressed by the Rotary Club of Dunwoody that he insisted she connect with him. Today, we are certainly glad she took his advice!

Jennifer’s favorite Rotary memory highlights her heart for community and connection. During the height of the COVID-19 lockdowns, she found solace at the Dunwoody Nature Center. While the work involved pulling weeds, the true reward was the rare opportunity to safely socialize outdoors with fellow members like Cathie, Jennie, and Rick O. Jennifer served as Club President and keeps on going. Most recently, she has enjoyed the camaraderie of organizing the District Conference alongside Meredith and Tina.

Beyond her Rotary service and her real job with AHI Corporate Housing , Jennifer stays busy as a Silver Sneakers Aqua Aerobics Instructor at the Roswell Adult Aquatics Center—a career that began just last summer after a neighbor noticed her talent at the local subdivision pool!

Jennifer is passionate about the "Vocational" side of Rotary. She encourages us all to learn more about each other’s professional lives and hobbies so we can better support one another.

When she isn't in the pool or at a meeting, Jennifer and her husband, Jud, are avid travelers. They have trips planned to Washington and Belize this summer, but Jennifer is meticulously scheduling her flights to ensure she has time to help with our July 4th parade float. That’s true Rotary dedication!
