Your To Do Checklist for This Friday

When you're getting ready for this Friday's meeting, check on these five items:

  1. Is your GPS set for Maggiano's at Perimeter Mall, 4400 Ashford Dunwoody Rd., Dunwoody?  That's where this Friday's meeting takes place (next week back to Embassy Suites) and you don't want to miss Buzz Law's presentation.
  2. Do you canned goods or non-perishables to donate to Dunwoody Elementary's Souper-Bowl? See story below.
  3. Do you have a printed copy of your survey responses with you? If not, take 15 minutes to complete the survey at Rotary Club of Dunwoody - Member Survey (Jan 10, 2025), then print a copy to turn in at Friday's meeting. Note, if you completed and were able to successfully submit the survey online, you can skip #3.
  4. Have you signed up yet to host for the GRSP leadership weekend? See Jackie or Meredith at the meeting Friday.
  5. Be sure you have May 19 on your calendar - the fourth annual Fore the Memories golf tournament! See the article below.

Hope to see you Friday!

This Week's Meeting
A Familiar Face in a Different Place! Buzz Law, CFP at Maggiano's

Join us this Friday at Maggiano's - Perimeter Mall - to welcome Honorary Dunwoody Rotarian Buzz Law. Buzz will be speaking about the Dunwoody Rotary Charitable Fund and the financial markets outlook. Buzz was active from 1994 until his office moved a few years ago just a little too far away to join us for breakfast.

Robert W. “Buzz” Law, a Certified Financial Planner™ practitioner is President of Creative Financial Group Ltd., a premier planning firm in Atlanta where he counsels affluent individuals and their families on comprehensive financial, estate, investment, and tax planning matters since 1984. Buzz is the founder of Creative Financial Group, which became a subsidiary of Synovus Corporation in February 2001. Creative Financial Group is an approved provider of Executive Financial Planning services for several of these companies (AT&T, Southern Company, CSX, Emory University, and others). [more]

Remembering Former Member Bill Kelly

The Rotary Club of Dunwoody learned this week of the passing of former member and now Buckhead Rotarian Bill Kelly. His obituary opened by saying Bill never took for granted what mattered most in his life and what he was blessed to have: a loving family and, later in life, the rewards of service. A service of celebration for Bill's life will be held Monday, January 27 at 2 p.m. at The Cathedral of St. Philip, 2744 Peachtree Road NW, Atlanta GA 30305 (Buckhead). Visitation in Child Hall will follow. A gift in Bill's memory may be made to The Cathedral of St. Philip or cathedralATL.org [more]

Be the Voice
Support Dunwoody Elementary's Souper Bowl

We are partnering with Dunwoody Elementary's" Be the Voice program" in a special Soup-er Bowl event. How? By collecting soup, other canned goods and non-perishables that will be delivered to Malachi's Storehouse on February 4. There are a couple of ways you can help:

  • bring a can of soup or other canned goods or non-perishables to our meetings on the 24th (this Friday) and/or the 31st (next Friday) ... rumor has it Publix has Campbell's soup on a BOGO offer this week
  • volunteer to help count and organize donations at Dunwoody Elementary - at 2:00 pm on either January 30 or February 3.

This is our first year supporting Be the Voice - where we encourage students to be kind and supportive of each other and the people in their community. The Soup-er Bowl project offers a fine opportunity to support what they are learning. In this Souper-Bowl, everybody wins!

GRSP Leadership Weekend
Three Weeks and Counting .... Help Welcome the World

We are gearing up for the GRSP Leadership Weekend - a 25-year tradition that touches all 38 students in this year's GRSP class with intent of offering fun and fellowship alongside service opportunities AND inspiration/tools for these potential future leaders. We need your help AND we promise fun for everyone - Rotarians and students alike.

Where You Can Help

  • We are still looking to fill all our host family slots - a place to sleep Friday and Saturday, breakfast Saturday and Sunday and transportation to and from the Dunwoody Annex
  • We are setting up late Friday morning/early afternoon - and could use a few people to help
  • Friday night is pizza party/game night - Meredith Morris would love to borrow your games and anyone who'd like to join us is welcome to join the fun - starting about 6 pm. We could use a few folks to help get the food organized.
  • Saturday morning we're packing 10,000 meals for Rise Against Hunger, and after a full day's program, we will have group dinners for students and host families
  • Sunday we'll need a couple of people to help with snacks and such, and few people to help clean up in the early afternoon

Contact Jackie Cuthbert or Meredith Morris if you're able to help.

Golf Tournament Update
Time to Tee Up Our Fundraising Efforts

Get ready for the Fourth Annual Fore the Memories Golf Tournament. Our tournament chairs - Charlie Augello and Bob O'Brien have set our targets at $50,000 - benefit the Alzheimer's Association, Anchor Place Respite Care and our Rotary Club of Dunwoody Charitable Fund.

The tournament will take place on Monday, May 19 at St. Marlo Country Club. There are ways for everyone to be involved! Start thinking about possible sponsors and auction items. Bob, Charlie and the team will be sharing more in the weeks ahead.
