We provided $1500 dollars of digital books for this title 1 school. Students at this school all use tablets and complete much of their work using the tablets. This is an improvement over giving a child a book. The digital library enables more students to read each book at a cost saving over supplying printed books. https://youtu.be/1IfOZrYJNko

Dresden Elementary School houses and maintains the school's digital library and orders the appropriate books. Dresden serves minority and low-income students in grades k-5. The students use tablets extensively in their classwork. After multiple discussions with the principal and media specialist, the school recommended adding digital books to their digital library instead of donating printed books. Digital books allow more students access to books everywhere at a lower cost compared with our previous project supplying one printed book to each student. In addition, the students can use their family's cell phones and other devices with ear plugs to listen to books at home where the parents speak a foreign language (mostly Spanish). Data from the December Newsletter shows that 70% of the books checked out were e-books. |
