Mark Cohen, M.D., is a clinical cardiac electrophysiologist and holds a Ph.D. in Biomathematical Sciences. As the vice president of Medical Affairs, Mark is responsible for the coordination of medical affairs to meet the needs of Piedmont's patients and physicians and integrating these with the needs of the hospital.
Mark came to Piedmont in 2007 with the formation of The Piedmont Heart Institute, and moved his efforts from clinical practice to become the chief of Quality, Informatics-IT and Research for PHI. This role involved the implementation of an electronic medical record (EMR) for PHI and then the leverage of this EMR for quality initiatives, particularly those required by Medicare.
He received his medical degree from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine and Ph.D. from The City University of New York. He then completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Texas Southwestern, Parkland Hospital, and his cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology fellowships at Washington University, Barnes Hospital in St. Louis. Mark is Board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, and Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology. Mark is from Denver, Colorado, and attended college at Brown University with a major in Applied Mathematics in Biology. He maintains an outpatient practice in cardiac arrhythmia management, as well as working with the Piedmont Atlanta Hospital inpatient services in cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology.
