The DeKalb Rotary Council will hold its annual breakfast for members of the eight clubs in Dekalb County. The date is Friday, March 21, at Georgia Piedmont Technical College (495 North Indian Creek Drive, Clarkston, GA 30021). The activities will begin at 7am. Breakfast will be served in a buffet style. The speaker for the event is Lorraine Cochran-Johnson, the newly elected CEO of Dekalb County.

We encourage you to attend. The club will pay for your breakfast, so we need to have an accurate head count to ensure we have enough food. Please respond to this email to sdoowrm@gmail.com with the subject line “Dekalb Breakfast” to indicate your attendance. As we get closer to the event, we can work out any carpooling arrangements.

Prior to the event, each club selected a teacher in their area as Teacher of the Year. Those teachers will be announced and an award given to each. There are also a couple of Rotarian awards being presented. Each club has selected a member as the recipient of the Show Rotary Cares award (in honor of our own PDG Bill Mulkey). Each club has also nominated a person for the You are the Key award (in honor of PDG Bob Grant from Stone Mountain - who was also an Honorary Member of our club). The council will choose the recipient.

Strength in Numbers is an idiom frequently used to imply that a group of people has more power and influence than a single person. That is the primary reason for the existence of the Dekalb Rotary Council. Alone, we can serve our local communities, but together we can affect a much larger area with joint service projects. If there was ever a need for the Council, now is the time. Some of our clubs are in “rebuild” mode. The pandemic had serious consequences and some clubs are still recovering from it. New leadership is coming forward, in some cases, with relatively new members who have little Rotary experience. This is a time to reach out, get to know each other and lend a hand to get all eight clubs healthy and productive.
