Cocktail Party a Success
The Club held an end of year cocktail party last Thursday night (06/14/18) at the Dunwoody Country Club. It was well attended with just under half the members (43) able to make it, a majority with either a spouse or friend. The membership and their guests got to mix and mingle. There were heavy appetizers, and our Club bought everyone their first drink. There was a general feeling by the membership that they wanted to try something new, and that the cocktail party as executed by our President Nominee Cathie Brumfield was a roaring success. As evidence, the official end to the party was at 8:30 PM, when we recited the 4 Way Test, but unlike our Friday morning meetings, probably a third of the attendees were still talking and laughing 30 minutes later.
The final official 20 minutes of the evening were spent recognizing people for their contributions to the Club during FY 2018.
Rotary Foundation Giving
Ken and Sherry Levy reached the status of Major Donor -Level One (i.e. total giving has exceeded $10,000)

Was awarded to End Polio Now team (see separate story in this week's Bulletin)
2018 Rookie of Year announced
The Rookie of the year is given to the member who has been in the Club less than 18 months and "had the greatest impact on the Club 's success during FY 2018.”
The competition for Rookie of the Year was intense. The three finalists were:
Ron Barden for his contributions to putting on the GRSP weekend, the Financial procedures review, and the review of the Dunwoody Rotary Charitable Fund's review of the Declaration of Trust
Jessie Legros for her work on the GRSP Weekend, as well as helping the International Committee be a success
Tania Lopez for her work as the Bulletin Editor, being the marketing manager for the Community BBQ, becoming the social media Director, and stepping up to be the temporary Rotary Youth Exchange Officer.
The 2018 Rookie of the Year is (drum roll please ...)
2018 Rotarian of the Year announced
The award is given to the member "who had the greatest impact on the Club 's success during FY 2018.”
The competition for Rotarian of the Year was spirited with many good candidate. Ultimately the crowd was narrowed to three finalists. They were:
Ken Levy for Chairing the 2018 Governors Ball, coordinating all the Family of Rotary events, and heading up the Dunwoody Diners
Dottie Toney Ransom for being the Caring hands coordinator, handling media relations for the Club, and being the Rotary Youth Exchange Counselor.
Jack Sparks for chairing the Title 1 Book Project and chairing the Community BBQ.

2018 Best Team of the Year announced
This award is new and was given to the team that "had the greatest impact on the Club 's success during FY 2018.”
There were 10 teams (counting both regular and ad hoc) that were formed during the year. Each contributed to the Club's success so choosing three finalists was not an easy task. That being said the three finalists were:

End Polio Now This team was formed to raise funds for RI's effort to rid the world of Polio. They have a three year goal of raising $25,000 and getting 100% participation by the membership. During the first year, they have raised $40,000 ($120,000 if you count the 2 for 1 match by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation), and enticed 75% of the membership to make a contribution.

GRSP Leadership Weekend This team brought 38 GRSP students together to teach them about leadership and Service above Self. This required soliciting financial support from 5 other Rotary Clubs, engaging the Rotaract Club, as well as finding lodging for the 38 students, while having an attention grabbing program that was spread over three days.

TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALL GAME!!
The Dunwoody Diners will hold the next installment of the Dining Club on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at Gwinnett’s Cool Ray Field at 5:00 p.m. The club has reserved a picnic area for dinner. After dinner, the club will attend the Gwinnett Stripers / Pawtucket Red Sox Game. Dinner is being furnished by the Gwinnett Stripers (Atlanta’s AAA farm team) and will consist of a picnic style “all you can eat dinner” featuring hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken quarters, baked beans, potato salad, cookies, ice tea, water, and lemonade. Guests, of course, can purchase additional and other items including alcohol at regular stadium prices.
Game time that evening is 6:05 pm. The Gwinnett Stripers will furnish dinner an hour before game time at 5:00 pm. The cost, including dinner, is $ 27.00 per person which also includes a box seat to the ball game. If you wish to attend solely the game, the cost is $ 11.00 per ticket. The Dunwoody Diners also suggest a $ 5.00 per person donation to the Rotary Club of Dunwoody’s Charitable Fund. Everyone is invited. This will be a fun family night!!!

1st BBQ & Community Festival
Friday & Saturday, September 7 & 8, 2018
at Atlanta’s Perimeter Mall
The Rotary Club of Dunwoody and the Kansas City Barbeque Society are working together to bring the best barbecue to Atlanta.
There will be approximately (40) Pro teams and (20) Backyard teams participating for prize monies. The size and exposure of this event is a first for Dunwoody. The City Council has designated this as a Signature Event sanctioned by the city.
We will be supporting The Rotary Club of Dunwoody local schools and first responders.
Education is a top priority, whether acting alone or working with partner organizations such as Special Olympics and Junior Achievement.
Helping our First Responders, is a key focus as well.
