This Week's Speaker
Nehemiah H. Lamb, Founder, Unique Individual Ranch

Join us this Friday at the AC Hotel to welcome Nehemiah H. Lamb, Founder of Unique Individual Ranch, a 501c(3) nonprofit organization that provides childcare focused on developing independence, cultivating positive social interactions, and community inclusion among children with special needs and disabilities,

Nehemiah was born and raised in Atlanta. Growing up, he had his first experience working with children in church, where he had the opportunity to become an assistant Sunday school teacher in a Pre-K class and later became a game leader on Wednesday night for the youth. He continued his work with young people throughout high school, college and after graduation, and became the Children's Services Director for the YMCA. After working hard to incorporate inclusive programs for the special needs children at the YMCA, he felt a calling from God to do more – to pursue enriching the lives of children with special needs and disabilities by offering quality and tailored programs and services. In the fall of 2015, he resigned from the YMCA and founded Unique Individual, which is now Unique Individual Ranch.  [more]

What Do Scotch, Rye and Community Service Have in Common?

They are all connected to our second of three whiskey raffle drawings - the more tickets you buy, the more chance to win and the more service projects you can help the Rotary Club of Dunwoody complete. Just click here and buy your Raffle #2 tickets for $20 each. We're selling 175 tickets; 45 sold to date.

At stake in the upcoming November 16 Thirsty Thursday drawing? A Benraich richly multi-layered and distinctive Speyside single malt plus a Whistle Pig aged Rye Whiskey stock in the Great White North. We rescued it from a hapless fate, aging it anew in virgin American Oak, before hand-bottling it on its own, in all its glory.

Buy your tickets; have your friends buy tickets and help us all win!

GRSP Service Opportunity
Join Team Ahmed!

Last week, we had the pleasure of hearing from Ahmed, our 2023-24 GRSP student. Now we'd like to invite YOU to join Team Ahmed by volunteering to:

  1. Provide transportation for Ahmed to the Alpharetta student weekend ... this November 10-12. Drop off is Friday afternoon between 5 and 6 pm; pick-up is Sunday morning by 9 am.
  2. Pick him up for a Friday Rotary meeting (at his apartment home in Sandy Springs where he's living with his sister and twin brother))
  3. Invite Ahmed to join you for lunch or dinner - or another of your favorite activities - a sporting event, a visit to an Atlanta attraction that's special to you
  4. Include Ahmed (and maybe his sister and brother) in one of your holiday events.

You may contact Jackie Cuthbert to volunteer at cuthbert@mindspring.com; we also will have a GRSP sign-up sheet on the tables this Friday.

Service Opportunity
Join in the Thanksgiving Magic ... Help at Kingsley Elementary

Several years ago, Honorary Rotarian Anita Augello and her daughter Claudia started a special tradition at Kingsley Elementary School - putting together Harvest Baskets for families with financial difficulties and hungry children. We have participated in this program - with money for turkeys or hams and other supplies, and sometimes donating canned goods or oatmeal. This year, we are again providing funding, but we also have opportunities for hands-on participation.

  • Help with Costco Order Pickups: In past years, Charlie and Anita shopped at Costco, loaded the car and delivered several times a week to the school. This can only happen before or after the lunch period. This year, one or two people with an SUV or truck would be appreciated on any given day that an order is ready,
  • Monday 11/13 at Kingsley: We could use some help cutting open packages, breaking down boxes and sorting into categories.
  • Thursday 11/16 at Kingsley: We could use two strong people in the morning, and two in the afternoon to carry well-filled (heavy) harvest baskets to people's cars.

Contact Anita Augello to volunteer or sign up at one of our two Friday meetings between now and then.

As We Approach Veteran's Day, Help Honor Vietnam Veterans

As we have said before, the Atlanta Vietnam Veterans Business Association plans to install a beautiful monument in Dunwoody’s Brook Run Park to honor both American and Vietnamese soldiers who fought and died in the Vietnam War. The RCD Board approved to commit the Charitable Fund to match donations of Club members up to $2,500 so we can meet or exceed the $5,000 level to have the Club’s name and Rotary logo engraved on the monument. As of last Friday, you had contributed at least $1,500 toward that goal!

If you’d like to participate, please make your tax deductible contribution to “Dunwoody Rotary Charitable Fund” and put “Vietnam War Memorial” on the memo line.  Then give or mail your check to RCD Treasurer Carter Stout as soon as possible.

Service Opportunity
Ready, Set, Shop!

There are just 30 shopping days until the holiday luncheon. For many years, Dunwoody Rotarians have been very generous in the Marines Toys for Tots Drive and we plan to support them again. Look for toys, bikes and games and bring them to the Holiday luncheon on December 1! With your generosity, we can make this holiday season special for needy local youth!

Time for Fun and Fellowship!
Mark Your Calendar - Holiday Lunch on December 1

Forty years ago this December, Dunwoody Rotarians and their guests gathered for our first holiday lunch. Since then, we have gathered for lunch - catching up with friends, enjoying holiday music, bringing gifts for the community and more! The photo here is the cover of the invite for our 20th holiday luncheon! Join us to celebrate on December 1, 2023 at the Dunwoody Country Club. More info soon!
