Books for Dresden and Kingsley

This Friday instead of having speaker, We'll have our annual Books activity for Dresden and Kingsley Elementary Schools.

What is it?: We provide a book during the Christmas holidays for each student in the Title 1 schools we support – at present, Dresden and Kingsley Elementary. Age appropriate books are selected by the school media center.

Volunteer Opportunities:

• Put book plates and a Spanish-English popular words card in each of the books we donate … we welcome as many volunteers as possible, and have been doing in recent years as a Friday Rotary meeting project.

• Participate in school visits to let the students meet the people behind the books.

Homemade cookies for the soldiers.

Home make Cookies needed for our soldiers. On December 7 Dunwoody Rotarians will be at the USO center at the Atlanta Airport.

Our Rotarians will welcome soldiers passing through the airport. We will serve hot dogs and snacks. So bring home made cookies. Please bring cookies in a disposable container and bring to the December 7th Rotary meeting. After the meeting volunteers will travel to the airport homemade cookies for the soldiers.

Toys for Tots

"For the past 10 years RCD has been a major contributor of toys for the annual Marine Corps Toys for Tots drive. Please remember to bring a new unwrapped toy to our Holiday Luncheon on December 14th at the Dunwoody Country Club. Let’s help make this a great Christmas for unfortunate children.”

Thank you for your help in getting this out to the club for the 4 weeks before the luncheon.
Jim Glass

Summer 2019 Study in Norway

This opportunity is available to children and grandchildren of Rotarians, as well as, other students nominated by a Rotarian. Looking for a Rotary Youth Exchange host Family

Rotary Club of Dunwoody is going to be hosting a Rotary Youth Exchange Student from Thailand , Mink , who just arrived!

We are excited to see her often and share with her this experience!

And we are still looking for host families who want to share this awesome experience for 90 days, (for late February through May).

Hosting a Rotary Youth Exchange Student can be incredibly rewarding for your family, bringing an international experience directly into your home. Host families provide room and board and share their lives with the Rotary Youth Exchange Students, involving them in family, community, and cultural activities. The Rotary Club of Dunwoody is looking for host families for our inbound student for next year, Mink from Thailand.

If you’re willing to experience one of the largest programs in Rotary by sharing your home and learning about a new culture, or you know a family that would be interested, contact Mike Parks, Deb Shelles Cameron, Dottie Toney-Ransom, Tania Lopez, or Jennie Stipick.

What are the responsibilities of a host family?
To accept the exchange student as a new member of your family. The student will be governed not only by the rules of the program but by the rules of your household. You are responsible for the safety of the exchange student the same as for your own children. Although you might become a bit more of the soccer mom or dad for normal everyday activities, it is not your responsibility to act as a taxi service or a tour guide. Rotarians for the hosting club will be helping in these areas.

You can find more information about being a host family in http://www.ryeflorida.org/host-family
