This Week's Speaker
Maro Innocent-Otolo, Our 2021-22 GRSP Student
Learn more this Friday about Oghenemaro Innocent-Otolo - better known to us as Maro - who joined us from Nigeria last August through the Georgia Rotary Student Program (GRSP). She will introduce us to Nigeria, her family and culture in Friday's presentation, and tell us more about herself. You can join us in person at LeMeridien or via Zoom at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86202979419
Maro says, "I am 18 years
old and from Lagos, Nigeria. I come from a
family of five: my mother, father, and two younger sisters. I am a freshman
at Oglethorpe University; a Communications Major (Media Studies Track) and this
is my second time in the United States. I am excited to be here and am very
grateful to the Dunwoody Rotary Club for sponsoring me and for all that they
have provided me so far in my stay."
Maro comes to us through GRSP's new Direct College Select Program. That means we worked with Oglethorpe to identify an incoming freshman for a GRSP scholarship (rather than selecting from the applicants that apply directly to GRSP). Dunwoody piloted this program for GRSP in 2019-20 when we selected Yemariam.
Host dad Ardy Bastien will be introducing Maro this Friday. He said Maro has become part of the family. She's joined several of our meetings and service activities. At our GRSP Leadership Weekend, Maro's student team won the Shark Tank and is eligible for $1,000 team grant to implement their ideas for outreach and support for children with long-term hospital stays.
